About This Class

This 8-week intermediate Argentine Tango class is where the fundamentals start to become a dance. Held every Wednesday evening in Burnaby at our Sperling Avenue studio, the course is designed for dancers who have found their footing in the embrace and are ready to feel more connected, more musical, and more free on the floor. You’ll build on what you already know in a supportive, small-group environment led by an instructor with more than 35 years of experience.

Argentine Tango is improvised, intimate, and deeply connected to the music — and at this level, that connection is everything. Over eight weeks you’ll refine the movements that make tango feel effortless, from your walk and balance to the way you communicate with your partner, while expanding your vocabulary with new turns, sequences, and ways of interpreting the music. Each session builds on the last, so you’ll grow more confident improvising and navigating a busy milonga.

Whether you’re continuing after our beginner course or simply ready to take your dancing further, this class offers a welcoming community and a genuinely rewarding experience. Our Burnaby studio welcomes dancers from across Vancouver, New Westminster, and the Greater Vancouver area. No partner is needed — we rotate during class so everyone gets to dance with everyone.

What You’ll Learn

Every class builds on the last. Here's what we cover over the eight weeks.

Refining Your Walk

Polish the posture, balance, and timing behind your walk until it becomes grounded, smooth, and unmistakably tango — at this level, a great walk is what sets confident dancers apart.

Deeper Connection

Develop a clearer, more responsive close embrace. You'll learn to lead and follow with greater intention and sensitivity, so every movement is shared as one.

Turns & New Vocabulary

Expand your range with turns, pivots, and richer sequences that open up new possibilities on the dance floor and keep your dancing fresh and creative.

Musicality & Phrasing

Move beyond simply keeping time and start dancing to the music itself — its rhythm, melody, and pauses — and learn to interpret different tango orchestras with feeling.

Improvisation & Floor Navigation

Build the confidence to improvise in the moment and move smoothly around a crowded floor, reading the space and respecting the line of dance.

Putting It Together

Combine everything into flowing, improvised dancing you can take straight to a milonga and enjoy with any partner.

What Our Members Say

I’ve really enjoyed tango classes with Gigi. Gigi creates a warm, supportive atmosphere while teaching with professionalism, clarity, and attention to detail. The classes beautifully combine technique, musicality, and connection, making learning both enjoyable and inspiring. I always leave class feeling more confident and motivated. Highly recommended for both beginners and experienced dancers!

This is a fabulous and flexible dance training operation headed up by Geraldine Goyer. I have worked with her in many of her lesson groups and individual training over the past several years, and continue to attend lessons, milongas, special guest seminars and intensives. The rates for group lessons, milongas, and drop-ins are very reasonable. The two primary venues for Tango Burnaby are both perfect for their floors, their spaces, and their acoustics.

Gigi is a great tracher and she makes the dance moves easy to understand and follow. Since my husband and I started taking classes with her, we've become even more passionate about learning tango.Besides, her warm personality makes the class much more fun and enjoyable.
Mahsa Damirchi
Gigi is a great dancer and teacher with enthusiasm and passion! My wife and I joined her Tango class for fun and also to get some idea for the first dance of our wedding. We enjoyed it. Class is friendly for beginners and easy to follow. Then we decided to take the private classes with her for our first dance. Gigi worked with us on choreography, which helps to make the dance the best suit for us. The first dance is a success. Many thanks to Gigi!

Gigi has the skills, experience, and personality to teach anyone – from beginners to advanced dancers. We have attended weekly classes for three years, and continue to enjoy the mental & physical exercise, and fun, that dancing offers, whatever your age!
Joette and Fred
Observant, direct, helpful. Most of all.. brings a warm, insightful approach in teaching the concepts and techniques of this beautiful, passionate dance. As avid students of dance, we are always looking to improve: whether it’s in our connection, our musicality, our technique. Geraldine has always been able to see what we need and help us to be better dancers! We appreciate her so much!
